Playerplot Planning for April(?)! (When You Made Wishes)

Hey, guys! It's me, Goblin, your resident, uh...goblin, really, and today I'm finally getting off my butt and getting an ooc announcement up for the event I want to run, which I've called "When You Made Wishes"! But for the times I don't feel like being pretentious, I've also been going with kidplot and inner child thing!

For this event, OOCly:
Due to a magical spell, a childhood version of your character will manifest in the world alongside their usual self, should you choose to have them affected! They will both exist, and so when all this is over, there's potential for your character to remember what not only they experienced, but what their kidself experienced while they were separated as well.
The fey that caused this mess will also have to be dealt with in some way. Exactly how will be left up to you! A preliminary interest check for who would like to be on a team that confronts Wist can be found HERE! Once decided, that group will get the final say of what will happen to our tricksy npc.

For this event, ICly:
A fey by the name of Wist wants everyone to take a break and remember what having fun is really all about -- because being an adult doing adult stuff, stuck inside boring walls all day every day, sure isn't working out great for anyone! They're casting this spell to do everyone at Daybreak a huge favor. Dig down deep, confront your real feelings, and let loose! Be a kid again, because everything was better when you were a kid, back when you made wishes.
Does it make you mad? Terrified? Maybe you wish it could last a little longer. After all, yours isn't the only memory manifested -- your best friend you've grown apart from is there, same as ever, the roommate you've been struggling to get to know, is suddenly small and demanding your attention... Well, a version of them, anyway. For some, there are benefits to this tiny magic quirk that might outweigh the much more obvious detriments. For others...it may not only be their public image at stake, as fey magic is known to come with chaotic consequences, and this particular spell is tampering with something delicate and precious. Thanks for the memories...!

And now for a Q&A, but I'll get the all-encompassing answer out of the way right now: I want you to have fun. If there's a way you can interpret the effects of the event to maximize your fun, go for it! If you're still unsure, feel free to ask me anything UNDER THIS COMMENT or through direct communication (PM, [plurk.com profile] goblinhood, or giveupgoblin#1469 on discord). Outside of that, feel free to toplevel to discuss potential plans or show off how cute your character was as a kid on this post!

Q: But I had plans! Does my character have to do them as a kid, now?
A: Not at all! If you choose to participate in this event, you will not be stuck playing a kid version for its duration. Both the inner child/copy and your character at present will be up and around, independent of one another. If you don't wish to play one or the other, that's okay, too! But know that this is not a typical ageswap event that alters the existing character, it is a spell to bring out someone's inner child for a reminder.

Q: How does the spell work?
A: Over on the plot submission post, I have a rundown about its stages, written from a basic pseudoscientist perspective.
To sum things up, the affected characters will begin to feel odd, like they're beginning to get sick, maybe, until the magic has built up enough inside them to completely copy their memories up to a point. The copy splits off from the original with that memory point deciding their age, causing a younger version of the character to be free to do as they will separate from the character. At some point, it is intended for the magic to burn out or concluded and for the copy to return to the character's soul, new memories (of all that fun!) being added when the two parts are joined together.

Q: Do characters know they'll be getting the inner children's experiences as new memories when it ends?*
A: Probably not, but conjecture about the possibility is of course welcome. If your character is particularly well-versed in fey magic, they might come to the conclusion it sooner.
*unless decided otherwise, due to fey complications or inner child death.

Q: How accurate is the copy? What all do they know?
A: Usually, very accurate! This is a being created from the soul's memory, so people that have memory issues are more likely to stray from the norm, but typically it would be visually and mentally indistinguishable from what the character was like from the point at which the memories stopped duplicating. It will, however, have a different magical resonance, however you want to interpret that. A ten-year-old copy of Professor Jill, who is 34, would have memories up to some day when she was still ten, have her ten-year-old looks, and act as if she was waking up like any other day. In most cases, the copy wouldn't remember that thing that happened when Jill was sixteen or who one of Jill's students is, and wouldn't act out of the ordinary for the projected age.

Q: In most cases...? Typically?
A: Fey Magic sure is a whacky thing sometimes! Almost anything goes, but feel free to ask about your plans or potential complications if you're still not sure!

Q: What age should I consider valid for an "inner child"?
A: hey man, if you can argue that it falls under some weird fey's idea of what counts as a past self from a simpler time that would have possibly been more likely to make wishes, go for it, my dude. Fey magic!!!

Q: What if my character is already a kid?
A: Up to you! You could have their inner child be a younger version of them, duplicate them as they are, or simply have the spell not take effect.

Q: Can the copy be injured? Killed?
A: bruh you can't kill a kid..........
But more seriously, yes. Copies will regenerate faster than their original selves if harmed, at the cost of causing ill effects (fatigue, in most cases) to the original when the two parts rejoin. The more severely the copy is injured, the greater the effect, with death of the copy even resulting in those copied memories becoming corrupted or lost.

Q: Goblin, WHEN WILL THIS BEEEE?
A: I...don't quite know! I'm putting this up to help figure that out! I know things are getting going with some other player plots and I don't want things to get too crammed. Feel free to let me know if there's a time that's no good for you, and I can try to pick something that works best for as many people as possible.
***EDIT: Potential thoughts atm are having it all throughout April and concluding at the start of May. (note: inner children would not have to be around for the entire event.)

Did y'all know kiddo Rex was an unstoppable force of optimism, used 'i love you' as a synonym for hello and goodbye, used simple magic irresponsibly constantly and promised to marry basically everyone?

Well y'all gonna find out.

Ky never had chill, not even as a kid. So he's going to be a high-energy kid that gets into places he shouldn't, pick fights, and generally being a very energetic little kid with very particular ideas of right and wrong.

Half-tempted for kid version to understand only Old French for language barrier shenanigans.

TinyRex you got some 'splaining to do!

But yeah expect a lot of GiantRex not being happy about this whole situation on many, many levels. TinyRex will be delighted, but possibly shoot baby fireballs at Mav every time he swears. Don't swear in front of the fucking baby!

This spell isn't going to work on Toki because he doesn't really have a separation from his inner child. He still is that child. There would be barely any difference in personality or emotions; maybe kid Toki would cry more and talk less. He was still panicky and afraid as a kid and had the same nihilistic issues with whether or not the world (or he) was even real. No one wants two of them running around at the same time... or do you?

So, up for "babysitting" and possibly hunting the fey.

It is so tempting for Maverick to find out about the daemon contract that way. Hmm.

Poor Ricky, an encounter will not go well for him.

Akechi has a soft spot for children, so he'll be trying to help calm Ricky down maybe he'll let him have one of the mythology/folklore gatchapon figures he has hidden in his 'do not open' boxes.
foolishjustice: (Give me a moment to think...)

[personal profile] foolishjustice 2019-03-26 11:44 pm (UTC)(link)
He'd wait until Mav was in the bathroom. Unless the tiny is very distressed and needs something to hug Right Now...he does have a plush Jack Frost doll.
foolishjustice: (S-stop it!)

Akechi is polite, soft spoken, authority respecting...and one great, big lie. A lie his younger self didn't bother with.

Kid!Akechi was a goblin child. Foul mouthed, rebellious, and full of anger at the world, he takes orders from nobody but himself. He's likely to pick fights, climb into places he shouldn't be, and steal food, drinks, and other things necessary for a child's health when he thinks nobody is looking. He's likely to be very wary of authority figures, so adults should approach with caution.

slides over Kano's kid character design sheet from the novels, he is still this same kid, he hasn't grown up at all

I plan to take him from when he was six years old, and, because I am a terrible human being, he will be taken at the moment where he gets stabbed in the gut after watching his mother die, "blacking out" and "waking up" to find himself at Daybreak (:

Things to note:
- he will not have any illusion magic at all, nor the memory of making the Contract
- one of the "rules" he used to live by was to not speak or interact with strangers, and he's very avoidant, so just a head's up threads will be him distrusting people in general and not being very engaged unless people are persistent
- in the same train of thought, interacting with little!Kano would be a great jumping point for if you want your character to talk to him about his mother or his self-esteem issues at a later date, but talking will be more likely with people who act kindly towards him or otherwise he'll walk away
- he wears long sleeves and pants at all times to hide the cuts and bruises on his body, but at the point where he's taken from, he has a large swelling bruise on his face, skinned palms and knees, a sprained ankle, and a knife wound in his gut. he was not having a good time
- mostly I just want people to show little!Kano a good time so he can rejoin with Kano and give him a warmer childhood
spelleton: and i'll show you mine (✧ show me yours)

boy oh boy do you want to see Ekkehardt as a tiny baby still alive child? WELL GUESS WHAT YOU'LL GET TO.

Ekkehardt Gehring aged eight is a soft-spoken, quiet kid who has a tendency to hide from or get inexplicably nervous around anyone who looks human and trail behind the people who clearly are not human. He's still having a lot of difficulty dealing with what happened to him like not even a year ago, and so he'd much rather be left to his own devices, but he'll tolerate people bothering him with a kind of nervous politeness because he doesn't know any other way to be. You can drag him into things pretty easily if you're precocious enough.

Meanwhile Ekkehardt Gehring aged 40 will be stressing even more about all these tiny children, oh my god, why are there so many of you. He might worry more about his eight year old self if he wasn't busy dealing with everyone else's kid selves, but luckily his kid self is actually fairly well behaved and is more likely to be a little shadow if left to his own devices, so he'll go back to his original with no trouble and experiences intact.

Toki needs to hang out with kid Rex. And maybe help him be less more responsible with that magic.

hello, me
mostly so I can have a thread where Kano's just like "hey, can't you let the fake kids live? so at least one of us can have a good life" while little!Kano runs up to him and shanks him in the back because THERE CAN ONLY BE ONE

Fighting Fey chaos magic with chaos is a good idea somehow. Can you really make a plan beforehand with their unpredictability? No.

Congratulations, Daybreak. You will get to deal with this terror (minus crown and braces):

This little brat of about 10 is every bit the terror that his older counterpart is and will be wearing the hell out of the Moon Jumper mask shown in the art there. He's still very much a kid, however, and has his moments of sweetness and kindness.

Please put a child leash on him.

Older Avery, on the other hand, is going to be torn between keeping an eye on his younger self and denying the very idea that he exists, especially since that child is very, very human.

I'm just going to make one comment for all my characters and hope I can keep track of plans.

Noctis will be experiencing this as one of his introductions to Daybreak! Congratulations. Tiny Noctis will be curious, imaginative, adorable, and unable to walk. Childhood injuries ain't nothing to fuck with. If asked, he'll have a hard time explaining what happened to him, and he won't like talking about his injury very much at all.

(It was daemons. Of course it was daemons.)

Hieke won't be exactly getting a "child"-self. He's old, you see, so he's going to end up in his 20s. He's going to look very clearly daemonic, be much more outgoing than current Hieke, and also much less serious. This whole thing is going to be a fantastic joke to him, and he's going to try to trick people into contracts and be kind of a horrible gremlin.

Adelaide will be on kid wrangling duty, probably. I'M NOT SURE IF I WANT TO GO FOR THE TRIFECTA OF KIDS...But if I do decide that, bitty Adelaide will be quiet, shy, and afraid of most people. She's another one of those kids, I'm sorry.

EDIT: I forgot to say what their adult selves would be doing, gg. ESSENTIALLY, ALL OF THEM WILL TRY TO WRANGLE THE KIDS - Hieke especially, considering his young self is going around trying to do things he does not want to be doing.
