Unchain Your Hearts

Akechi has been settling in nicely, and is about to be done with his pre-finals cramming and related exhaustion, so it's about time he got to his real reason for being here. Starting during spring break, he's going to be skulking around campus and using the power of his daemonic contract to temporarily remove all forms of restraint from random people. This includes everything from adherence to rules, to morality, to even simple self-preservation. Affected characters will act purely on their deepest, most buried desires.

This plot is fairly open to interpretation, but as the power itself can be a bit confusing and there's other things at work here, I'll try to answer questions as best I can.

As a side note: if your character has been to Tokyo in the past two years, they might recognize this as similar to the epidemic of 'rampage incidents' that have been going around the city.

Does my character have to do something bad?

Not necessarily! This power draws out a character's Id, which is essentially raw, unfiltered desire. If the things they want to do from the bottom of their heart but normally never would are harmless, they're not going to suddenly gain a violent streak or anything like that.

How long does this last?

Up to you, although a general rule of thumb is to remember that this isn't a long-term power. It should last long enough for their unchained actions to be meaningful, but end quickly enough to be seen as an episode of strange behavior rather than a shift in personality.

I meant the plot.

That is...also up to you! Well, partly. Akechi has been given a year to accomplish his objective, so the longer this goes without him either succeeding or getting caught, the more aggressive and reckless he's likely to be. That said, this is meant to be a slow burn plot to give people plenty of opportunity to play with it without a dozen different incidents competing for attention, so please don't have your seer/mind reader/genius trace the incidents back to him right away.

Are there any side effects?

There might be! It's not uncommon for victims of this power to have trouble remembering what happened while under its influence. This can be anywhere from finding themselves a little fuzzy on the details to drawing a complete blank, with the only guaranteed thing being that they won't be able to recall why they decided to act the way they did. Generally speaking, the better a character is at resisting mental effects, the more awareness they'll retain.

Could my character be immune?

Entirely possible! If a character has a specific resistance to mental influence, the ability might fail. Contact with orichalcum would also suppress the effect, even if it's applied after the spell is cast. Likewise, characters who have no sense of restraint and act on all of their desires anyway, you know who you are, might find there's no difference beyond a slight haze and an inability to even remember the societal restrictions they were already ignoring.

I have another question.

I'll be opening up questions in the comments, so ask at your leisure.

Basic plans:
Maya - Is staying away from being whammied for all sorts of reasons. Maya is available for anyone who wants their character found and identified as 'whammied' because her powers are dope that way. And looking into the cause for this.

Mal - Mal is going to be baking, cooking, and making all sorts of food and giving to anyone and everyone she meets (for a few hours)! Because she loves being friendly and girly and none of it is cursed. Which honestly is a huge red flag for anyone who has been at school for a while.

Claire - Will be in the common room watching chick flicks and crying. This should also be a huge red flag to everyone around her.

Naoki's going to get it especially bad, since he's barely restrained as it is and the spell will knock down the last few walls keeping him from just going completely bonkers and wrecking shit. He'll be pinballing wildly between superpowered murder rampages and laying down for a good long cry.

I've got it pinned down to where Kohaku finally manages to put him down and he winds up in medical custody for awhile until they figure out what to do with him. But if you wanna make something happen between then and now, feel free to hit me up here or on plurk @ [plurk.com profile] boymayors!

Yuya's going to be hit with this and end up totally embarrassed after the fact.

For the most part he's a 'wear his heart on his sleeve' kinda guy, and isn't hiding any secret Evil Urges. He does, however, try to project more of a smile than he always feels because he often tries to bolster others, and he sits on his own emotions that he's less comfortable showing, so he's going to end up being basically a crybaby when he can't stop expressing himself. A lack of restraint also means he'll not be stopping himself from saying something he probably shouldn't.

Yuya will ALSO lose the restraint he has over being attracted to guys. Mostly this means he will get ideas to go kiss Gongenzaka because he's been angsting on his crush for like, a year. But he'll also be open to other guys about whether he finds them cute and, if receptive to it, flirting. It's gonna be very teen drama.

Yuya would totally flirt with Akechi, because he's cute and they share similar hobbies and that course run was impressive, he's already a plus.

Excellent. They can have heartwarming bonding about it after Yuya thoroughly destroys Akechi due to his own making.

Just for the fun of it, I'd like to see Jail get hit with this and just. Not change.

At all.

(Like the FAQ said up there- some people just have no sense of restraint.)

okay here's a run down:

Alt - Alt's desire for expanding his alchemy ability will override all moral qualms and common sense, so he is going to go ham Mad Alchemist, cackling, unwise experiments, tricking people to drink strange potions, the works. The kind of thing that caused him to be a villain originally.

Ky He'll mainly be unaffected for the majority, but he will have a moment of rage/guilt/grief and kind of go on a rampage in the school chapel and not going to have a good time after it, but then will try to force himself to act like nothing's amiss because oh god there's so many proverbial fires to put out.

Fakir: At the most? he'll just stop being cagey about why he's such a grouch, so blunt honesty, or he'll get clingy and admit he actually feels a bit lonely. Otherwise, nothing major.

How nice of you to consider those who have no inhibitions in the first place. <3

But seriously. The only difference in Cereza's case, once hit with a miasma that removes all inhibitions, is that she'll cancel class. Waiting For Godot is a stupid play anyway.

What she may wind up doing instead, is dealing in damage control for some of the students if she happens upon them getting violent or having issues with their powers that could harm themselves or others. Everyone's free to hit me up for that if they want.

Since Puella is not really hiding any deep dark secrets the major change is that her emotions are going to be more amplified than usual. Those she doesn't know well are more likely to get pranked in some way, albeit without intentional harm.

Close/some established CR on the other hand, she'll be much more clingier towards and may not want to leave their sides. She's affectionate and wants to do a Good Job™ but also feels inferior in most aspects. Most of the academy can do things she can't, and she's not always as fearless as she tries to be. All she wants is just something to hold on to (literally and figuratively) to make everything okay. Primitive kid angst.

...Also there is less of a moral sense against just...taking things that aren't being watched. Mostly food, but also anything that looks shiny or cool. Doesn't really matter if it has a purpose or not. Going to eat straight out of the fridge at least once. Stolen items will likely be returned back if she even remembers where it came from.

I am probably going to hold off on Nana getting the bug and deciding to go all-in on protecting her friends. Her innermost desire would be to do anything to keep them safe, but that also sets up some stuff.

So if it happens, INSTEAD, she is gonna do funny stuff. Options include:
- Show up after Minako gets back from a date with Ren in full 18th century Royal Navy regalia, because she ships it. Sorry Ren and Minako.
- Loudly sing show tunes in the hallway, sorry Imelda.
- Purchase an expensive wooden placard titled "BEEFUCKER" for Kano, sorry Kano.
- Yuya and Gon need to go on a date. She will make it happen. Sorry, Yuya and Gon!

Yang's Id is just shutting off the alarm and accepting that 10 AM is the time adults should rise.

Valvatorez will likely be entirely immune to this effect, because, well? Val's got most of his issues under control, even accepting the deep-seated desires he has as a vampire daemon as normal and nothing to be ashamed of, but he distinctly chooses himself not to indulge in them. Not that temptation doesn't exist; instinct is still a powerful thing, but what he wants more than anything is to keep his promises and remain true to himself.

Also he's a 2,500 year old daemon, he's probably dealt with worse. Plus I'd prefer to save Tyrant Valvatorez for something big.

Instead, he'll be doing damage control for.... some of the more destructive and dangerous individuals. Or council for those who are not dangerous and just need to talk about their problems. Let him help you, that's what he's here for.

Gunvolt, on the other hand, I'm more open for.

His Id will probably be about the desire to improve and get stronger, so he will push himself to his absolute limits to the point of potentially being a danger to himself. But that's rooted in a less high-key, but infinitely more serious problem: he desperately wants to be accepted, needed, and desired: he's an orphan turned nigh-child soldier.

While he's normally surprisingly well-adjusted, with the limiters turned off? He will really need some emotional support. Asimov's the one he's most seeking to impress, of course, because he feels like he owes him everything. Without him, Gunvolt wonders where he would even be, and if he'd even have a future worth speaking of.

Avery is, unfortunately, a perfect target for Akechi. And he is most certainly going to get hit. HOWEVER, I'm not going to have it happen til after the kid plot and at least want to get one more Vanessa mission in so people might be able to get Some non murdery or violent interaction from him.

The rules of Daybreak, his paycheck, and the potential for amusement are pretty much the only things holding Avery back from being a murdery, violent, soul-eating shitlord, and with his id running wild, he will have no qualms with lashing out as much as he wants: no contracts to preserve the appearance of being polite, no playing cat and mouse up to that point, and less moments of dark humor than usual.

His emotions will also be fully on display as well, compete with angry ranting and, depending on how his missions go, mad laugher through tears.

Ekke and Val are going to help with getting Avery under control, with Jail pulling off the final blow by running him over with her car, but I am totally up for any and every sort of plotting everyone has for me.

Once he snaps out of it, he'll be extremely grateful for that.

I imagine he probably is going to go through some of the more hellish training courses the school has going for him. Eventually, he's going to bite off more than he can chew, so Ky's probably going to have his work cut out... especially because GV might be hard to convince to stop at that point.
