CASSANDRA UPLOAD - OCTOBER

CASSANDRA UPLOAD - OCTOBER
Log Comm | Network Comm | OOC Comm | Navigation

All Seers are required to report to the Citadel on the 15th of every month to upload their visions into the system. Based on the visions of all contributing Seers, Cassandra will hone, refine and extrapolate to give as clear a prediction as possible of upcoming events. This is mandatory for every student blessed with the Sight and aware of their powers. The upload requires students to stand in a metal tube for about 15 minutes. Cookies and juice are provided after the upload. Students who attempt to shirk their duty will be recovered by the Golems. These students do not get cookies and juice.

All Seers will have about fifty percent of their visions consumed by an unnerving image of some kind of strange... creature floating in a jar of fluid. This creature carries with it a sense of foreboding that will be difficult to shake.

This vision has expanded from its previous incarnation, showing flashes of what appears to be some kind of arcane laboratory and people in full-face masks and lab coats. There is the impression that you are seeing these things from something else’s perspective.

The sound of a gavel slams onto something wooden as glittering treasures fill your vision, the crowds around you murmuring appreciatively in languages you do not understand. Even from your respectable distance from the artifacts, you can just feel power radiating from them all, making one almost ache to reach out to grab something.

Again an obsidian mirror appears, cackling laughter coming from it as the viewer’s skeletal hands lifts it up. Again, the reflection distorts, from a cruel, mocking expression to a saint’s piety. As one sets the mirror down, they will see every reflective surface around them now share the distorted reflection.

No other notable visions have broken through this month.

NOVEMBER EVENTS & MISSIONS

To Craft the Night (November 13th, Open Event)
The accumulation of visions has provided Daybreak with a golden opportunity, one that cannot be delayed. The Herald’s ability to overpower visions appears to be ill-developed, which has given us a vision not just of the Herald but of the facility in which it is being created. We will strike at the facility and destroy it and the Herald before it can awaken.
All available forces will be allocated to this mission. It cannot fail.

Roiling Darkness (All Month, open event)
The activity within the Outland as the next Herald is created has given rise to powerful Outland monsters. Borne of the fallen Herald, putrid insectoid creatures of writhing carapaces melded with rotting flesh have begun to swarm out of the permanent darkness left in the wake of the Herald in Australia. The monsters typically have limbs all over both human and insect, eyes in unnatural places, and bladed appendages and razor-sharp fangs and claws. The creatures are vulnerable to Radiance, as well as most magical weaponry. Conventional explosives are about half as effective as normal. For the entirety of the month, there will be heightened activity with the monsters streaming near-constantly out of the mists and darkness. Supernatural Suppression forces have been deployed as part of a UN effort, so the emergence zone has remained under constant encirclement and lockdown, but the creatures are constantly trying to breach their containment.

Daybreak forces may deploy to assist at any time, although depending on their combat skills they may be placed on active containment duty. Rumors swirl around the site after the surprise announcement, and many curious folks with cameras are constantly trying to slip the barricades. Fortunately, with strategically placed detection runes, they never get far, but it is still important to catch them right away and keep them out.

Picking Up The Pieces (November 15th)
Client: Various
Multiple reports of strange creatures moving, supernatural fire, and destroyed monitoring equipment have been sent back from the Daybreak forces stationed permanently at the emergence site of the first Herald. The team on this mission will gather information and attempt to capture some of these strange monsters that have appeared on-site - it’s believed that a smaller, nimbler team dedicated to containment will have a better chance of catching the creatures by surprise.

Grim Confrontation (November 20th)
Client: Daybreak
The strange, shadowy creatures that assaulted the Academy a few months back have been spotted converging on a certain spot in the Outlands. Based on this and other information, the Academy believes that the necromancer who targeted several students and attacked the school is beginning to regather her strength in this location.
The team on this mission has a simple task: find the necromancer while her defenses are still down, and neutralise or eliminate her.

Appreciating High Art (November 24th)
Client: The Museum of Egyptian Antiquities
The Chief Curator of the Museum of Egyptian Antiquities have given a humble request to the academy concerning the “Risen Phoenix”, an auction house that meets every five years to auction off incredible artifacts and antiques often thought lost to history. In particular, the Curator wish for representatives to get their hands on two items: the fossilized remains of the fabled “Set Beast” and a supposed intact copy of the Book of Thoth - a collection of spells. The academy will send a small group with the ability to blend in and act quick - it is an auction after all - to retrieve the requested artifacts through means fair or foul. Any additional items that could be gained will be considered a bonus.

What You Take With You (November 8th)
Client: Daybreak
A team of people investigating a mysterious item in the Outlands has gone MIA, presumed dead with two-way tracking runes on the outside disappearing all at once. This is not an unusual occurrence. People disappear and die in the Outlands with regularity and the team would have been well aware of the risks. What is unusual is that one of the runes has regained power, months later. It's inconsistent, going on and off. Whatever is holding the rune now is on the move. Daybreak has been enlisted to trace it to the source and, with any luck, they'll be able to secure the items the investigation team was originally seeking out; an obsidian mirror.
This mission is a player plot. The player who created this mission chooses the amount of slots available.

Reflections Lost In Fog (November 10th)
On the retrieval of the obsidian mirror and the journey back into the Outlands, the mirror will activate on contact with Outlands mist. Anyone who looks at it, or any reflective surface around the school, will be sent into a dark, foggy landscape where they can meet others who have also been affected by the mirror’s power. But they won’t be alone; the mirror’s power is such that it will also create distorted reflections of those affected - more specifically, the worst and best versions of themselves.
This is a player-created open event. A separate plotting post for this event will go up at the player’s discretion.

If you have other player plot related visions, feel free to place them here. Players are welcome to use vision posts to tag and plot OOCly as to how they want to use them. These visions will occur between now and the next Cassandra Upload. Characters who share visions will be able to use Cassandra to combine them, giving them more clarity to what they see.

This is powerfully self-indulgent, so don't feel bad if you have to say no--I don't know what's planned for the Appreciating High Art mission--but could I worm an important NPC for Therion into that auction? If it helps, I could then introduce a player plot afterwards that could tie into the P5 Palaces and/or Nightfall stuff.

Darius on the Octopath Wiki. In the Daybreak world, Darius Lord leads a London-based criminal group specializing in the illegal acquisition of rare (and often magical, frequently dangerous) treasures, though not all members of the group are gifted with powers themselves.

An auction like this would absolutely be on Darius's Christmas wishlist, and he could be a rival for either the fossils, the book, both, or neither, since I wouldn't want to impose The Therion Show in any way on other players if they're not interested. It's enough for me if Darius just happens to be there, but he can provide an additional challenge to the mission if that suits people.
