Player Plot: Hollow Souls

Premise

Some people believe that the spirits of their departed loved ones still watch over them, and protect them from harm. And occasionally that's true! A soul that hasn't passed over may very well choose to linger in the world of the living, maybe to look after their surviving friends and family, or maybe because they just can't let go of what was important to them in life.

But there's danger for the dead who still try to cling to the living. There's a daemon that dwells in this world, one skilled in deception and knowing when to lay low and avoid being hunted, that can devour the hearts of these lonely souls and twist them into monsters that serve his greed and lust for power. These souls are signified by two ever-present markers: a hole in the chest where their heart no longer anchors them, and a horrible white mask to hide their identities. Otherwise, their bodies and abilities vary wildly. Some can spit acid; others carry a bounty of parasitic creatures that latch onto their victims and explode. These hollowed souls are driven to fill the empty void inside of them, craving the hearts of other souls to devour in a vain attempt to restore what was lost.

And they always come after their loved ones first.

Hollows and You!

WHO CAN GET INVOLVED: Anyone who's ever lost a loved one, whether a family member, friend, or bae, can choose to have a hollow version of the dead pursue your character. If your character has a perfectly happy life with no dead people to angst over, you can still participate. Surely you know someone in the school who DOES have a tragic backstory. Hollow souls can be jealous of their relative's living friends and attack them too in an attempt to isolate their target. Or maybe the hollow soul just isn't picky about who it eats -- when you're starving, everyone looks like a roast chicken dinner.

But what if your character is already dead? WHAT THEN? Well...in that case, the daemon might be very interested in trying to make you one of his hollows, and you can contact me personally to get hella attacked.

WHAT TO EXPECT: Players will be in charge of playing their own hollow souls, but I'll be handling the daemon himself. He's sly, cautious, and unlikely to attack students where he can be seen and/or slain. But those who sneak out after curfew, or hang out in town without supervision, are easy prey. Not only is he capable of devouring souls to turn them into Hollows, he can also make copies of his previous victims appear to wander about and lure meals straight to him. This daemon is extremely dangerous solely because he's smart, but he's not the most powerful creature on the block. He's only been around for fifty years or so, and gains power by devouring souls -- the stronger the soul, the greater his power increase. Eventually he plans on eating his minions whole instead of just their hearts and thus destroying them permanently once they're strong enough to imbue him with a decent amount of power.

Players can take a lot of liberties for how their own threads are played out. A hollow can be restored to sanity if they're significantly shaken by an act of pure love that brings them to their senses. However, unless the daemon is destroyed, they won't be guaranteed to regain their hearts. A restored hollow may linger around their loved ones to protect them, but they're in danger from that point on of being attacked and eaten by the daemon, or even reverting to their monstrous desires if they suffer too much sadness or anger.

The daemon's defeat will be played out once one of two possible conditons are met: One, that it just happens ICly. A faculty member or sufficiently strong student might have just the right powers to kick his cowardly ass and put an end to everything prematurely. Two, when everyone's had time to play out their hollow threads and are ready for a satisfying conclusion to the plot, I'll arrange it so everyone who suffered as a result of his wicked deeds has a chance to go after him as a group and either kill him or drive him back into hiding to possibly emerge again in a future plot.

WHEN WILL THIS TAKE EFFECT: Any time starting now! Each player can handle things at their own pace, and the attacks don't all have to come at once. It could be weeks or months before a hollow ever crosses someone's path. As long as the daemon is alive, he can keep making more hollow souls. Even if he is defeated and you didn't want to miss out, he made plenty of hollows that can still be encountered and that may have eaten enough souls that his death didn't affect the status of their missing hearts. And really, who's to say that's the only daemon capable of hollowing a soul? :3

WHERE WILL THESE THINGS HAPPEN: Anywhere, anytime. The daemon isn't stupid enough to wander freely around campus where a billion well-trained hunters will gut him for lunch, but the other hollows might be too hungry to care about the consequences. You might even run into a hollow while on a mission in another country!


Feel free to plot out emotional and action-packed encounters with each other by leaving a comment. There will also be a comment for those who want to be attacked by the daemon himself!

Kano's Hollow will take the form of his dead mother, which is somebody he never speaks about to anybody and never brings up, so this plot is great for the start of getting into why he's how he is.

THE MAJOR WARNING HERE is that she was a physically abusive parent, so threads will touch upon child abuse, violence, murder, etc. Kano loves his mother and will defend her with his life even now, so he wouldn't be able to deal with her on his own, but if this sort of thread/cr sounds interesting to you, hit me up here or on plurk!

Gongenzaka has a dead grandfather, and unlike Gon himself, Grandpaw (hah) was a bitten were.

And his bear-form was thus not only way bigger, but a lot less under control for all that he seemingly kept his record clean.

He'll probably show up as a big bear hollow with a mask, honestly. Lots of strength, lots of fight! But hey at least the bite isn't infectious??

OKAY DETAILS TIME

So Gongenzaka's grandfather was a fairly impressive figure within the dojo. Aside from being the founder of course, and the one who more or less made it what it is Today, the man never layed harm to a single human being, using his bear features (so in the context of an attack naturally)

Gon was pretty young when he died but he does have good enough an attachment that his grandfather's hollow can target him. But more importantly, Gon has in the past, once only, failed where his grandfather did not.

When he attacked Yuuya.

So this hollow isn't just going to attack Gon- he's going to focus on the idea of ERRADICATING the existence of lycans, absolutely destroying them all, because no one's hands are clean- not even those who have...well. Tried their best.

So this is the kind of encounter that would definitely lend to a big reveal of past matters with Yuuya and Gon (though not necessarily in full- obviously that depends on Aths permission as well). It makes it a hollow attack that should happen later rather than sooner- Gon needs more than just Yuuya to have enough faith in the guy to fight BACK, and the less time to develop that CR well

The. More likely the CR is to presumably recoil in fear instead OOP.

Valvatorez has a dead loved one from like 400 years ago, but I probably won't Hollow her because I not-so-secretly hope someone apps her someday and she kinda needs her soul to be free to do that. However, once he hears of a daemon like this on campus he will relentlessly begin hunting it down; of course, he'll only have so much luck as the plot allows.

Let it be known that when he finds out whoever puts a stop to it gets some extra credit if they're in his classes or some form of personal commendation if they're not. The absolute, unmitigated gall of this daemon!

Val will be able to help with anyone's plots and can be an excellent rescuer in a tight spot.

If anyone wants some interesting negative CR, this could actually tie nicely into a goal of mine: Having an enemy who the other good guys are morally conflicted about, and having Killua fucking kill them without mercy or hesitation.

So, if someone's got a Hollow of a passed loved one, how would they feel if a 12 year old assassin stepped up right when it was hesitating due to remembering its humanity for a brutal execution?

Maya Matlin & Campbell Saunders

Who wants to save Maya from basically a waking nightmare she can't fight against at all and Maya's going to be horribly useless and broken the whole time? Cause- basically being anywhere near Cam will just shut Maya down completely.

See, Maya would be able to recognize Cam's sound under all the hollow noise, and- yeah, she'll basically just freak out right there and have a panic attack. (This also means Maya's not doing much as Cam attacks people to get to Maya.) He'll be very human-shaped but fast with a lot of high speed projectiles to him. Skating around as if the entire world is a frozen ice rink.

All of Maya's Content Warnings featured here apply ten times more. Because Cam will likely bring up all Maya's baggage when he's around. From her, or by just taunting her with what she tried to do.

Orihime's Brother: Acid Wire

Orihime's dealings with a hollow relative will share some similarities with canon. But it's definitely not going to follow those events beat per beat, because that's boring and uninspired. So even though I have a general outline, these are just suggestions, and I am wide open to having things go awry!

Phase One: Orihime's brother, Sora, has finally managed to track her down in France. His ultimate goal is to kill her but he doesn't want to eat her soul. He just wants to be reunited because he's lonely. So he'll start causing accidents to work the subtlety angle: she'll be seen with bruises, get hit by cars (WHY PLURAL???), fall down flights of stairs, etc. It'll just seem like she's exceptionally clumsy and accident prone. At this point characters can prevent her from being killed by these totally random accidents and keep her from breaking her neck. To most it would seem she's just unlucky, but it wouldn't be OOC to start getting suspicious after a while, especially since one of the ugly mottled bruises to show up on her leg looks kind of like she got grabbed by a big hand with fingers inches wide.

Phase Two: Eventually he'll just straight up attack her. During this phase, he'll lash out in jealousy against anyone who has positive CR with Orihime. The closer she is to that person, the more brutal he'll be. Someone like Tatsumaki, her best friend, is someone he'll want to rip apart. At the end of this phase, he's likely to just grab Orihime and flee into the woods with her, and she might be missing for quite some time --- days, weeks, even months. Or it could be just a few minutes. That's up to her CR!

Phase Three: The final showdown. This one is absolutely open as far as outcomes and events go. He'll try to kill whoever Orihime loves most (platonically or romantically) if they come for her, and Orihime will absolutely throw herself in front of that person to save them and try to convince her brother to come to his senses. Unlike canon, Sora is not guaranteed a happy ending. It could happen, of course. Orihime didn't have her powers to redeem him in the canon version, but in this one, she does. If Sora is killed before she can get closure for the guilt she's carried, that could have some long-lasting and even permanent consequences for her. In short, plot things out, and I'll see if I can accommodate everyone involved so they get at least one cool moment for their characters.

I'm definitely down for having GV do stuff in Part One with her, either by being a bystander to an accident and giving her a hand, or to outright stopping a particularly dangerous one. And it'd work great for the thread they already have going, because it would convince GV to double down on getting her some kind of magical runic protection to help blunt any injuries she gets from mishaps.

...Good thing those materials at the workshop are covered by tuition, as it happens.

If GV and Orihime continue becoming good friends after that, I'd be down for a phase two attack against him as well. And he'd probably go after Sora when he takes Orihime, but Phase 3 can be talked about more in-depth later when their CR shapes up more too.

Rex literally has one person he's ever been close to, and I'm saving his mom's spirit making an appearance for a rainy day so he'll have no Hollow of his own...

But his current mad scientist project is creating artificial spiritual beings so he'll be very interested in getting his grubby mitts on one! If there's anyone out there with a character who might WANT to have a Hollow taken apart for science (or just to have them taken apart) I'd love that. but I'd also enjoy Rex showing off his shadowy wool over the eyes stuff by convincing someone that what looks like a painful process of taking them apart is actually helping free their soul or whatever lie he thinks will work, that's even better.

Michael has no deceased loved ones himself, due to only bothering with positive feelings for mortals for the past few years or so. But he is a daemon who has had dealings with dead human souls in the past, so if anyone needs him to step in on anything, let me know!

Toki's sister Ginshu died very recently and he's definitely not over it. She was basically ripped apart and dismembered, so the hollow will probably have limbs attached in the wrong place or something.

Much like Maya's reaction, Toki will also be "horribly useless and broken", panicking and ultimately leaving someone else to deal with the hollow. Also the /not knowing if it's really happening or he's just seeing things/ bonus. Not that he has any fighting skills anyway, so he'll just be off hiding somewhere and screaming until it's over.

Tatsumaki has dead parents and a set of dead grandparents, so I will absolutely have at least one of them hollowed. Probably the dual combo of her parents, since they died in a car accident while worrying about their daughter. Whereas her grandparents were both prepared for their fates and thus would have been able to move on in the afterlife.

Orihime will Be There For Her. Especially since she's one of two people who knows about Orihime's powers, so she won't hold back when it comes to protecting her. But man, two for one combo deal, that has promise!

Imelda doesn't have any dead relatives that I want to bring back for this, but she's available to help with any situations that arise! She's got a big chimera cat that can hunt people down and fight, and she's not shabby with combat magic herself.

If you need him to shank some fuckin ghost monsters or whatever or treat mysterious wounds, he is always available. He'll also be helping hunt this shitty daemon because god what an asshole.

Minako and Minato's parents died when they were six years old, during an accident involving a hunter and a daemon. They were good people, so fighting them will be... difficult. Basically, it's going to be a bad time for Minako, and I welcome anyone who wants to be here for this.

What I want more than anything from this plot, even a hollowfication whats that fritz?? something you want more than horrific painful transformation and insatiable horror hunger???? insanity!!! is for Héctor just to find out what this demon is doing to dead souls.

And then for him to proceed to spend a long time running and dealing with increasing panic and paranoia as he realizes a worst fear, a single thing that could be more terrible than never getting home: hurting someone he's trying to get back to there.

Getting to that point where he's jumpy at everything and just completely starting to fray at the edges, that's the stuff i'm going for. Once fisher finally catches up to him, naturally everyone's going to realize he's dead by that time if they haven't worked it out already. I am not actually sure if I want him to be rescued before Fisher successfully twists him up and hollows him or if I'm going to let the hollowing happen. (And if I do, I might take up Rex's offer up page a bit and then he might need to be rescued in a different way before he's ripped apart oops.)

WHAT I DO KNOW is that after this hollowing or semi-hollowing is over, it's going to hit him pretty hard, not just for the obvious reasons, but also a bit to do with how I was thinking of having his own power work.

On the other hand, if this is something that occurs when that Power Of Love Cure option gets unlocked for this poor bastard, it could also help him a little too. Because reasons.

In either hollow case, I don't know what kind of monstrous appearance he should have as a hollow and I'm gonna have to really think that one out!! Nevertheless, suggestions are welcome!

EDIT!! (already) I'm leaning on letting the hollow stuff happen but mostly to pass it off to Rex ripping him up than letting him rampage much. Mostly because I think it'll be difficult for me to play a Héctor who's really that aggressive as a hollow would be, beyond, say, growls and teeth snapping and a few angry-sad guilting comments at Imelda when he naturally lunges for her at some point or another.

Lie Ren has the power to calm people at a touch, so if you're in need of someone to help you to face your fears, Ren might be your man!

When Tyzias was conceived, her soul was automatically auctioned off to the highest bidder out of a series of twelve Western Zodiac-themed demons because her family is Like That(tm). Being the enterprising young questionable genius that she is, as soon as she got free of the Condescension Tyzias began figuring out a way to cancel the contract. She eventually found a method, although it was definitely dicey: she'd just rip out the part of her soul where the demon of Libra had made its claim.

Ever since then, that part of her soul has been something of a free agent, floating around in the Outlands and just barely dodging a variety of nasty customers who want to eat her. Tyzias, meanwhile, has been drawing loads of extra energy from this part of her soul, and in return shunting all of her nonessential feelings to it. Which has naturally made that part of her very, very spiteful.

Rather than eating the soul nugget, Demon Fisher was intrigued, and decided to make this part of Tyzias a Hollow. This experiment somewhat backfired, though, since Hollow!Tyzias continued to get a metric fucktonne of both positive and negative feelings from Tyzias, which filled the void in her heart. But despite all that, normal Tyzias still has all the feelings of responsibility and most of the righteous fury, making Hollow!Tyzias something of a wildcard. However, Hollow!Tyzias has enough anger to be incredibly pissed at normal Tyzias for unconsciously torturing her by drawing on her energy to function after staying awake for days at a time and giving her a bunch of horrible feelings such as "fear" and "depression" so normal Tyzias wouldn't have to deal with them.

I have a few plans for Hollow!Tyzias, but if any of you guys want an opportunity to interact with Tyzias if she wasn't such a stick-in-the-mud or have other plans feel free to hit this post!

After thinking about it - Fakir would probably encounter hollows of his parents - using parasitic crow-like monsters that would latch on to puppeteer anyone they catch to kill them (either throwing them into certain dance or exhaust them).

They'll primarily target Fakir due to envy of living + familial love getting twisted into 'Kill our son and we can be reunited' and Fakir is not... going to deal with this very well.

Aya's twin sister Maya died in a car accident when they were very young. However, at the time Maya was possessed by an in-stasis daemon-goddess thing awaiting the maturation of her host to awaken and usher in a new era of etc. etc. After the accident, Maya's eye ended up in Aya and her kidney ended up in another little girl. A couple decades later, the daemon-goddess awoke, and Aya had to kill her to save humanity.

Maya's connection to Eve, the daemon-goddess in question (who is actually the Lilith) is questionable - was Maya herself actually Eve? Was she a normal girl, tragically destined to be overtaken by an ancient evil? How much a part of Eve was Maya? How much a part of Aya is Maya? How much a part of Aya is Eve? Where is Maya's spirit - still living on in Aya and helping her protect humanity, or caught in some purgatory? Or did Aya destroy her sister's spirit/soul when she destroyed Eve?

These are the questions and insecurities the hollow will prey on when taking Maya's form.

He will also happily eat one of your dead loved ones, but only once. I imagine it'll give him food poisoning.

Belated Hollow planning Post

The Hollow for Jade is going to be one of the dogs of her pack. Her mama dog in fact. As things go on, though, the dog will when she gets Jade alone, kind of like the zomben transfodmation, will. Ah. Look like As if someone alchemied the whole pack into on monstrous being. Lots of teeth, eyes, and legs. Though at first the dog is just going to be kind of running around. (I imagine a Irish Wolfhound)

Details however continue to elude me :/
Maybe her goal has something to do with mages/magic (since the whole pack p much died by Condescension mages hands).
