sauerfacedcyborg: (Is there a problem?)

Spirit Tracks Plotting

After this weekend, a group of students and faculty will be departing to board the Phantom Express. Getting on the train will be easy, the real problem comes from the train appearing to be a convoluted maze of cars on the inside, and spirits taking the forms of people the invaders have lost to try to convince them to just ride the train to its destination.

Alongside the spirits of the dead, the train is full of cargo meant to accompany the passengers to the afterlife. This includes things like protective charms, blessings, dangerous curses, spellbooks, and any other non-weapon magical weapon that might be entombed or otherwise offered to aid the souls of loved ones in their journey or rest. Beyond those guidelines, it's up to player discretion what characters might find on the train, and anyone (regardless of whether or not they're signed up for the mission) can use the top level below to suggest things that might be among the cargo.

Oh boy.

So I got some potential stuff right on over here:

- Eye of Horus amulets of various types (meant to protect and ward off evil)
- Shabtis (which, uh, shouldn't work but would be very distressing for the living)
- Various gold jewelry (probably has more protection charms on them, or curses for those that take the items)
- ... Canopic jars, I'm sorry

A few ideas for items
- An enchanted hand mirror (inspired by the Lens of Truth from Ocarina of Time) that allows the user to see any hidden enchantments / curses that have been placed
- Ofuda
- Magatama
- Ceremonial sworrds that have the ability to ward off evil spirits (maybe causes a fun curse if taken off the train)
- Incense (you could probably light this to calm the spirits should any get nasty)
- Dolls of varying degrees of creepiness (maybe the spirits can possess these for fun??)

I think for once Lin’s training as a monk will be more important than her training as a warrior. She actually has been taught how to help the dead move on (though not quite in such a literal sense as this. More in the sense of how to do funerals and such.). She’s also highly magic resistant, so she might be a good choice for handling dangerous curses, if the need comes up.

On the other hand, she knows an awful lot of people who have died. She tried to save most of them but even a hero doesn’t always make it in time. Some of them she killed her self because she couldn’t think of any other way to stop them from killing more people. Either way, she’ll have to deal with a lot of guilt, as she firmly believes that if she’d just known the right thing to say maybe they’d still all be alive.
