DANCE PLANNING

DANCE PLANNING
Log Comm | Network Comm | OOC Comm | Navigation
This post is for the members of the Student Council to discuss, OOCly, the plans for the dance. The dance itself will take place October 31st (with the 1st of November being an in-service day with no classes so students can recover) and will be Halloween themed, but is otherwise up to the Student Council to plan.
We ask that the planning be finished and whatever details the student council wishes to include be submitted no later than midnight the morning of October 16th (Eastern Standard Time). Any details not filled in by the council will be filled in by the mods.
The Student Council is free to make an IC discussion post as well if desired; this post is simply for hashing out the plans for the event.

Though he's unsure if they should allow/encourage magic enhanced costumes or if there should be a costume contest where the rules explicitly forbid any supernatural means of clothing.

Question is how we organize this on an OOC level. Toplevels for the contests and people describe/link their costumes below it seems easy enough, but deciding the victor....
We could set a deadline for submissions and just full RNG or we could go with votes, which'd take longer....

And then the schedule would be smth like.... First 24 hours after event gets posted is for sign-up to the contest, the next 24 hours the judge characters cast votes? As to not drag it out too long so people can actually play their victory and defeat.

James is good with the gross food though as long as actual ingredients are clearly labeled so nobody gets an allergic shock because certain foods were harder than usual to identify.

We could do it outdoors in a spooky forest, maybe with some NPC mages making the trees grow to give it a cool, spooky forested canopy look and hang lights from it?
Nana will probably try to encourage council members to dress up as specific fictional characters and go in character sometimes (tho not all the time).
Also: campfire with s'mores, and maybe ghost story telling?

Re: Costuming, having the council have a theme is cool by me, Rex will have no input because he doesn't care about fun (but he will echo whatever Adelaide says because she is his not!wife and if she wants him to dress a certain way he will).

And this sounds good!

Also +1 to all location thoughts, this is coming together to be a fun party.

Otherwise he'd be invisible man and just wear his stealth cloak all night, so he doesn't have to talk to anyone.

To prevent the cold getting to everyone, it'll be a ring of trees with their branches interlocked tightly enough to prevent wind getting in (kinda like thatching). There will be a main entrance in the form of an extra-large hollow tree with a creepy mouth that opens to let people in, but for safety reasons any section of branches will open up if knocked on. Every tree will have some kinda spooky face on it, which will sometimes (but not always) change when no one is looking. The canopy will be similarly interlinked, enough rain couldn't get through if it comes down, but depending on weather might open up to show the moon.
So people don't get muddy costumes/break a heel on uneven surfaces/electrics don't get wet the ground will have a level barrier for people to walk on, which will be hidden under an ankle level fog. The dance floor is its own translucent barrier, raised a bit higher over the fog, so people can see fancy footwork.
Since he's Rex and he knows he'd appreciate it, they'll be a couple places where the foilage lets people hide. He intends this to be a place that people with social anxiety can step out of the way or have conversations without screaming over music, but they'll be prime for a) sloppy make-outs and b) jumping out at people to spook 'em.
Once the night is winding down, Rex will be really extra by having all the artificial growth disconnect and merge together into a wicker man style structure, which will burst into flame. He'll suggest having it make sounds like wailing people being sacrificed because he's grim but will be easily negotiated to having it just laugh maniacally. The wicker man will explode into a series of bonfires launched around the area, looking very dangerous but being perfectly safe, so people can spread out and tell ghosts stories etc. while leaving an extra-large one at the sight of the dance, so people can find it easily and don't get lost. Not wanting to be responsible for burning down the forest, he'll synchronise the fire with his wood so it can't spread to anything. Unintentional bonus, this means all the smores will be perfect because the marshmallows won't combust, just heat up.
Any additions/objections?

Nana will be against the wicker man sounding like people are being sacrificed, but love the idea in general.
