[Infopost] Into The Labyrinth

Into the Labyrinth OOC Post
Log Comm | Network Comm | OOC Comm | Navigation

Utultar is evidently tired of waiting, and on the 20th of December he finally makes his move in earnest. In western Asia, the Tigris and Euphrates rivers have slowed and come to a stop, the water ceasing to flow as a massive ziggurat of black stone rises between them, floating over the land that was once the Cradle of Civilization.
The Fourth Herald of Night is officially here.
This log will OOCly be posted on the 16th of December.
Players will need to travel to this place to confront Utultar. The first half of the event will consist of getting through the myriad of magical seals and defenses to allow everyone to confront its’ ruler in battle during the second half, in which players will fight Utultar directly.
Signing up for breaching the defenses will lead you to confront three guardians, each of which has a riddle to solve. You must either correctly answer the riddle or find another way to open each of the three gates to progress. The guardians can be tricked or compelled, if you’re sufficiently skilled- but trying to fight them directly is not advised. Signups can be found in the comments below.
Then again, there’s something to be said for brute force- and boy, does someone have the kind of face that begs for a fist. Utultar possesses, as the Germans would say, backpfeifengesicht. Unfortunately, he also possesses a great deal of power. If that sounds like your kind of fight, we encourage you to sign up for the throne room battle below.
Unlike the previous encounter with a Herald, these will be multi-person threads, to make it easier on the mod team. Like before, we will be asking for a one character per player limit on encounters. (For example, if you have characters A and B, you can sign up A or B to multiple encounters, as long as they don’t share encounters.)
Questions/Feedback
Gate Guardians
OOCly, you have unlimited time to solve each riddle. (ICly, the guardians won’t actually time you or tell you to hurry up, but the part where you need to get to Utultar before the world ends will probably provide a bit of pressure.) The guardians will answer any question you ask them, with varying degrees of honesty. Whether you get more than one chance to answer… depends on the guardian. Some are more inclined to give you do-overs than others.
Good luck.

Middle Guardian
While not allowing them to pass, she does not seem to be immediately hostile. Failure to solve the riddle or attempting to force one’s way through would cause her to rise - lifting the hem of her robes to reveal eight, spidery legs. Answer the riddle and answer correctly, or find yourself in a web that you cannot escape.

End Guardian
As far as anyone can tell, he reads as a human mage, but the sheer aura of power coming from him is practically enough to knock people flat without even doing anything. Answer the riddle and answer correctly, or face the judgement of the king.

...He'll still try to solve the riddle though, just because that's going to be a smoother resolution.

Utultar Bossfight
Utultar Bossfight Signup Form
Player name: Your name.
Character name: Character’s name.
Major injury dealt to boss: A serious blow to Utultar that has actual mechanical consequences, whether physical or mental. Each character in the fight gets one, although additional attacks for more cosmetic damage are allowed as you please.
Threat level from boss: This lets us know how rough we’re allowed to get with a given character. Minor threat means that your character is treated as roughly as would make sense for a Herald’s threat level, but doesn’t suffer major harm; they might be scratched, worn out, bruised, etc, but escape mostly unscathed. Major threat means that characters will sustain wounds that need medical attention and suffer more extensive damage.
What do you want from this fight?: Details that will help us make the thread better. Injuries you want? Injuries you don’t want? Things you’d like to avoid or things you’d like to have happen should be put here.

Character name: Gunvolt
Major injury dealt to boss: Catching him in Voltaic Chains, which would be a bunch of searing Radiant damage to his body. The injury would probably slow him down or leave him more vulnerable to follow ups because of it being anathema to daemons. It can also be used as a setup for another move for someone else, or it could be capitalizing on an opening. Surface injuries and cosmetic damage are probably electrical burns and whatever happens to daemon flesh when it meets radiance.
Threat level from boss: We'll go as high as Major here, given this Utultar is a goddamn badass and he deserves to be a major threat.
What do you want from this fight?: I want some payoff to their first meeting, the mutual loathing coming to a verbal head before a big throwdown. All I care about in injury is the flexibility to potentially still allow GV to throw out Voltaic Chains while hurt, so preferably nothing that leaves him unconscious before then. Fractures, bruising, and being thrown around enough to need healing is fine. I don't know how Utultar really fights but a shoulder-stab would be acceptable too. Ultimately I just want some vitriol thrown back and forth during an ugly battle.

Character name: Desidera Neroni
Major injury dealt to boss: Desi will mostly be doing her usual thing of working to give her teammates (GV and anyone that's accompanying them) cover and/or openings do to their own things. If or when she goes on the offensive, it's going to involve explosions, and though it's a risky move considering the respective sources of their powers, she may do the same thing she had done back in the Bellona fight and back GV's lightning up with her own.
Threat level from boss: How badly do you want to piss off Gunvolt?
What do you want from this fight?: :v

Character name: Urtz Cromwell
Major injury dealt to boss: In general I'd like her to be able to trick him, creating an opening for someone else to strike. Urtz is good at close quarters and long range combat, but against someone like him she'd be relying more on unorthodox tactics like illusions and such, which is the branch of magic she's best at.
Also if she's the one synthesizing the poison I guess that's a bit of a given.
Threat level from boss: Major is fine by me.
What do you want from this fight?: Pretty good with most injuries outside of like eyes getting stabbed. That's a big squick for me. As for what I want, I guess like a test of wits and tactics? I'm even fine with Urtz getting a taste of her own medicine before managing to flip the table and get a good one on him. Even if it potentially takes her out of the fight for some amount of time.
Hopefully that helps?

Character name: Vivi
Major injury dealt to boss: Firebolt to the face. Teamwork following up Gunvolt and Desi's attacks, most likely.
Threat level from boss: Major!
What do you want from this fight?: Vivi gets to cause some major damage and be damaged in return! He's not going to be in great shape which is all fine and dramatic.

Character name: The Knight
Major injury dealt to boss: Stabby
Threat level from boss: Major is fine with me!
What do you want from this fight?: I haven't really decided on anything else other than having them be there to kick ass
and have ass kicked, so I guess I am up for whatever happens. \o/Re: Utultar Bossfight
Character name: Ky Kiske
Major injury dealt to boss: Between sword and lightning, I'd like to use it to sunder his armor to make it easier for everyone else to land devastating blows him.
Threat level from boss: Major, fuck him up fam.
What do you want from the fight? Let him support the kids, injuries that'd be normally lethal for a person to pull a 'surprise he's not dead, fucker'

Character name: Tobias
Major injury dealt to boss: One good slice with his trick paintbrush works for me!
Threat level from boss: Major also fine with me
What do you want from this fight?: Nothing especially specific, I'm good with winging it. Something more along the lines of Toby being burned/zapped would be easier for a dumb bird to survive and yet be feelin' it.
