[Infopost] Into The Labyrinth

Into the Labyrinth OOC Post
Log Comm | Network Comm | OOC Comm | Navigation

Utultar is evidently tired of waiting, and on the 20th of December he finally makes his move in earnest. In western Asia, the Tigris and Euphrates rivers have slowed and come to a stop, the water ceasing to flow as a massive ziggurat of black stone rises between them, floating over the land that was once the Cradle of Civilization.
The Fourth Herald of Night is officially here.
This log will OOCly be posted on the 16th of December.
Players will need to travel to this place to confront Utultar. The first half of the event will consist of getting through the myriad of magical seals and defenses to allow everyone to confront its’ ruler in battle during the second half, in which players will fight Utultar directly.
Signing up for breaching the defenses will lead you to confront three guardians, each of which has a riddle to solve. You must either correctly answer the riddle or find another way to open each of the three gates to progress. The guardians can be tricked or compelled, if you’re sufficiently skilled- but trying to fight them directly is not advised. Signups can be found in the comments below.
Then again, there’s something to be said for brute force- and boy, does someone have the kind of face that begs for a fist. Utultar possesses, as the Germans would say, backpfeifengesicht. Unfortunately, he also possesses a great deal of power. If that sounds like your kind of fight, we encourage you to sign up for the throne room battle below.
Unlike the previous encounter with a Herald, these will be multi-person threads, to make it easier on the mod team. Like before, we will be asking for a one character per player limit on encounters. (For example, if you have characters A and B, you can sign up A or B to multiple encounters, as long as they don’t share encounters.)
Gate Guardians
OOCly, you have unlimited time to solve each riddle. (ICly, the guardians won’t actually time you or tell you to hurry up, but the part where you need to get to Utultar before the world ends will probably provide a bit of pressure.) The guardians will answer any question you ask them, with varying degrees of honesty. Whether you get more than one chance to answer… depends on the guardian. Some are more inclined to give you do-overs than others.
Good luck.

Middle Guardian
While not allowing them to pass, she does not seem to be immediately hostile. Failure to solve the riddle or attempting to force one’s way through would cause her to rise - lifting the hem of her robes to reveal eight, spidery legs. Answer the riddle and answer correctly, or find yourself in a web that you cannot escape.

End Guardian
As far as anyone can tell, he reads as a human mage, but the sheer aura of power coming from him is practically enough to knock people flat without even doing anything. Answer the riddle and answer correctly, or face the judgement of the king.

...He'll still try to solve the riddle though, just because that's going to be a smoother resolution.
