Unchain Your Hearts

Akechi has been settling in nicely, and is about to be done with his pre-finals cramming and related exhaustion, so it's about time he got to his real reason for being here. Starting during spring break, he's going to be skulking around campus and using the power of his daemonic contract to temporarily remove all forms of restraint from random people. This includes everything from adherence to rules, to morality, to even simple self-preservation. Affected characters will act purely on their deepest, most buried desires.

This plot is fairly open to interpretation, but as the power itself can be a bit confusing and there's other things at work here, I'll try to answer questions as best I can.

As a side note: if your character has been to Tokyo in the past two years, they might recognize this as similar to the epidemic of 'rampage incidents' that have been going around the city.

Does my character have to do something bad?

Not necessarily! This power draws out a character's Id, which is essentially raw, unfiltered desire. If the things they want to do from the bottom of their heart but normally never would are harmless, they're not going to suddenly gain a violent streak or anything like that.

How long does this last?

Up to you, although a general rule of thumb is to remember that this isn't a long-term power. It should last long enough for their unchained actions to be meaningful, but end quickly enough to be seen as an episode of strange behavior rather than a shift in personality.

I meant the plot.

That is...also up to you! Well, partly. Akechi has been given a year to accomplish his objective, so the longer this goes without him either succeeding or getting caught, the more aggressive and reckless he's likely to be. That said, this is meant to be a slow burn plot to give people plenty of opportunity to play with it without a dozen different incidents competing for attention, so please don't have your seer/mind reader/genius trace the incidents back to him right away.

Are there any side effects?

There might be! It's not uncommon for victims of this power to have trouble remembering what happened while under its influence. This can be anywhere from finding themselves a little fuzzy on the details to drawing a complete blank, with the only guaranteed thing being that they won't be able to recall why they decided to act the way they did. Generally speaking, the better a character is at resisting mental effects, the more awareness they'll retain.

Could my character be immune?

Entirely possible! If a character has a specific resistance to mental influence, the ability might fail. Contact with orichalcum would also suppress the effect, even if it's applied after the spell is cast. Likewise, characters who have no sense of restraint and act on all of their desires anyway, you know who you are, might find there's no difference beyond a slight haze and an inability to even remember the societal restrictions they were already ignoring.

I have another question.

I'll be opening up questions in the comments, so ask at your leisure.

Finally throws together a comment for this...

Noctis won't be effected by this - he certainly could be, but he doesn't have nearly the amount things to be angry about that his canon counterpart does. So he's safe!

Hieke might get whammied by this. Going after a daemon to cause some chaos seems like an obvious route! Surely there will be loads of violence that comes from it! But jokes on Akechi, the thing Hieke represses most is his fondness for people. The biggest difference will be he's more happy, more cheerful, and way more likely to hit on his coworkers.

Especially coworkers who might go on violent rampages. Oops.

Adelaide is the most likely to be impacted, because I'm a sucker for drama and moral quandaries. For those not in the know, Adelaide is a vampire trying very hard to not be a vampire. Without her shame and desire for secrecy holding her back, Adelaide will be much more...well. Classic vampire. She'll be loads more charming, loads more intense, and loads more willing to take a quick snack on someone. If she does get to the point of taking a nibble, I'd like to hash it out beforehand because it'll, you know, cause a lot of fallout and stress on her if she remembers the event. (Which of course she would, because drama.)

So Adelaide's RA is kinda- distrustful of monsters, for various reasons. And it'd add extra drama if she caught Adelaide trying to bite someone. Because- well, Claire will kick herself over not catching it. And also violence.

That sounds like something that needs to happen, because clearly the solution to this problem is More Violence.

Claire is like the ONE person Adelaide super doesn't want finding out, so.

Hieke and his questionable taste.

I'm up for Yuya running into Adelaide when she's whammied, though. He's significantly more inclined to forgiveness if it does get to biting him, esp since he'll experience a similar episode of lost inhibitions + his best friend is a lycan, so he understands that the blight messes u up.

Hieke has the Worst taste, and that's a fact.

Also Yuya is too good. 8( Adelaide will feel SO GUILTY after the fact, but I'm on board for her going after him.

Drama and bonding after the fact because he gets it, it's not the worst mutilation from a friend he's suffered. A TWO FOR ONE

I repeat: Yuya is too good. MAYBE ALL OF THIS DRAMA WILL BE WORTH IT, BECAUSE FRIENDSHIP.
