Welcome to the Pre-Game AU Planning Meme for Daybreak Academy! This post is intended to help prospective players plot their AU and figure out who their characters are in this setting and where they want to go, as well as work together with other players to plan future CR, build Secret Societies and Clubs, and generally determine where they want to start their characters, and where they want them to go. In addition to posting up the form, you are encouraged to tag around to other people's forms and discuss potential CR and plans with them. This post is an open forum for all prospective players to hash out interesting ideas for their characters ahead of joining the game.

Not sure where to start? Feel free to look through the Premise and FAQ for notes on what the game is about, and what to expect. We also encourage you to take a look at our information for in-setting Powers and Secret Societies to help flesh out your character's backstory.

STUDENT OR FACULTY?: Student
CHARACTER BLURB: A young boy who signed a perhaps ill-advised contract with a mysterious Daemon who calls himself Igor. Given the power to bind lesser daemons to his service and slip into distorted Outland spaces around particularly distorted people, he begins to steal the distortion within other humans, forcing their hearts to change. Once his activities were known, he was taken into Daybreak Academy and placed in class, under heavy watch due to the whole "Daemon Contract" thing. He can enter Igor's domain, the Velvet Room, as can others who have contracted with Igor and I am looking to make the Velvet Room Contractors a Secret Society.
PRE-ESTABLISHED CR: He's probably a fairly new transfer, but any other Persona characters who have similar backstories as Velvet Room Contracted might have seen him around before now, hit me up!
DESIRED CR: Other students who are disdainful/afraid of him due to the whole Daemon Contract thing. Other misfits and outcasts. People who need willing accomplices for crazy and/or stupid shit. Ren's probably down.

STUDENT OR FACULTY?: Student — grade 11
CHARACTER BLURB: Minako is a Tamer who came about her abilities to summon lesser daemons (hereby known as Persona) through pure proximity. Much like in canon, she is extremely chipper to the point of seeming naive. However, this girl has been through some Things leading to her invitation to the Academy, including losing both parents at a very young age, and fighting off some kind of Outland daemon(s). But it's fine.
PRE-ESTABLISHED CR: Since Minako will be coming from the game's equivalent to Iwatodai (or some unnamed Japanese town if anyone wants to hop on), there isn't much to offer. But I would love to find some extended family for her. She would have bounced around a bit growing up, so I'm relatively open.

CHARACTER BLURB: A literal Knight Templar who went into an enchanted sleep to protect a great secret about 700 years ago, and was eventually woken up because they think it's going to be needed.
PRE-ESTABLISHED CR: Other faculty members, especially anyone involved in waking him up or helping him get up to date.
DESIRED CR: Fun idea: turns out a couple of students are descendants of his siblings, so hello 20th cousin once removed?

History nerds come bother him, and generally he'll assist with anyone wanting to be tutored in swordplay or combat magic.

CHARACTER BLURB: A hunter turned teacher who exudes a "calm and cool" exterior, which is used to hide the fact that he's actually a complete nerd. After an injury forces him to take it easy, Cloud is more than content to lead the quieter life of a teacher, especially as he can oversee the club for one of his favorite activities: snowboarding. One of the items he always brings to class with him mostly to intimidate trouble-making students is an overly large sword. Cloud also has a weakness for animals, especially birds, which he tries to hide.

STUDENT OR FACULTY?: Faculty. On the practical side, he teaches armed combat. On the theory side, there'd be a lot of focus on how to handle situations out in the field without the use of powers and instead rely on your own initiative and smarts. Everyone else is teaching you how to become an anime protag, one guy's gotta be the killjoy here...~~you'll thank him once there's a power loss event~~
CHARACTER BLURB: Mifune's father was the head of a dojo and Mifune himself was his chosen successor as the eldest son of the family. Growing up, he was trained rigorously to become a worthy successor and at a young age was quite the talented kid. Unfortunately when his home town was attacked by a hideous monster, the members of his family's school took up arms to protect everyone...and were all quickly dispatched. Although the monster was eventually taken care of by another faction, the townspoeple lost faith in Mifune's family and their institution, with most of the students pulling out and fresh blood became far and few between. With no students, the entire school fell into ruin and was closed down. Mifune's dad didn't take it well and sunk into depression; he's still alive to this day, but he hasn't been the same since.

With no help from home, Mifune simply took his sword along with the clothes on his back and left. He became somewhat of a wanderer traveling from place to place, taking up odd jobs from assassinations to bodyguard duty; not every job he took was immoral, but some rumours do suggest he's not always been on the right side of a fight.

PRE-ESTABLISHED CR: I kept his role as a wandering swordsman general so he could've done work for various factions in the past, depending on how loosely we can work with that. Maybe you hired him to kill a guy that one time...not gonna lie though, on a more personal front him being someone's hobo uncle would make my day.
DESIRED CR: Students; general, but star pupils that do really well or like his class, as well as people who hate it or just straight up are flunking. Also other faculty, friends would be cool. He'd be your end of the day drinking buddy.

CHARACTER BLURB: A member of the mysterious Shadow Mirror, one of the more militant rune guard groups, Lemon has been employed as an administrator for the Anvil due to her extensive experience with rune inscriptions. She is loyal first and foremost to her craft, interested to see how the arrival of new Candles and other academy candidates will lead to improvements in their efforts to prepare for the coming darkness. (It is rumored that she has her own personal rune armor, but no one has ever seen her in it at the academy - nor can most students picture her in one.)
PRE-ESTABLISHED CR/DESIRED CR: Faculty members! Other rune guards - rival organizations, fellow Anvil staff and of course, fellow Shadow Mirrors!

CHARACTER BLURB: Cio is a horrid little daemon. She used to be a horrid big daemon with some notorious feats of ambition under her belt, but some of the other daemons felt she was getting too big for her boots; by their machinations she was stripped of the power and wealth and whatever else it is daemons like to get their hands on that she'd accumulated, and reduced to her present state. She has since thrown her lot in with the Daybreak Academy: she figures she's safer here from the many enemies she made in the Outland and it's in her best interest to help with trying to deter the Nightfall. Of course, she's sure she's going to get a lot of shit for this when the Night comes anyway and the daemons she's been trying to avoid all this time are free to prowl the Earth and find her, but really it can't be worse than it was sticking around back there, can it?
Okay, it probably can, but you're not going to get her to admit to optimism.
PRE-ESTABLISHED CR: I'm assuming she's been at the Academy for a little bit (although probably not more than a few years), so she'd probably know other faculty and students
DESIRED CR: She used to be a pretty powerful daemon, so while she goes by a different name now, people into contracting with daemons might be familiar with her previous incarnation as Yabalchoath. I'm not sure exactly what her timeline is looking like yet with regards to how long ago exactly she lost that name and power, but it'd be neat for her to have to deal with someone with some kind of link with who she used to be, whether that's like, having contracted with her personally, a family legacy built on a contract with her in the past, your grandpa died because he made a bad contract with her and she fucked him over, etc.,

BLURB: A young boy who gets bitten by a radioactive spider and gains super powers, only to have to deal with a bunch of people from alternate dimensions who ALSO got bitten by radioactive spiders when they show up in Brooklyn.

STUDENT OR FACULTY?: Student. Age 13.
CHARACTER BLURB: After being bitten by a blighted spider, Miles' power as a candle woke up and saved him from a slow and painful death. After Miles caused a minor incident trying to figure out his powers (he was seen by a dozen people walking on the outside wall of his school), Miles parents got a letter from Daybreak Academy about an amazing new opportunity for their very gifted son, which they jumped on because they wanted to get him the best possible chance for the future.
PRE-ESTABLISHED CR: he will be a BRAND new transfer student as of the game start, so he probably hasn't physically met anyone unless they're also from New York. It's possible that maybe he was online friends with your character and is only now meeting them face to face.
DESIRED CR: Friends. Crushes. Cool experienced people he can look up to. Other people who are new to this whole supernatural world and are just as confused as he is. Other spider-people. Anyone who climbs buildings.

CHARACTER BLURB: Nana is a second year student, who is sort of the den mother type: baking lots of goodies, looking after other students, and being a bit of a weird one. She is, however, infamously intense in the practical portion -- utilizing two katanas and a number of amazing skills with them! And, she harbors a secret: a Contract, with a Fey known only as the Giraffe, to whom she has sworn that one day, her friends will live the happiest day ever.

I'M SURE IT'S GOING TO BE FINE.

But, until then, she is (quite secretly) gifted with limited foresight: she can see limited visions of the future, without control of what or when they show. This is strictly opt-in and consent-based; it mostly manifests in Nana being the first in line at the ice cream social.
PRE-ESTABLISHED CR: Nana has been around for a year! Thus, characters who have been might know her? She was also in Japan, before that, and I'd be game to play with that. I'd love to have friends and such.

I'd also like to make Theater Club a thing, with her as a member.

BLURB: Uhh. Kagerou Daze involves timeloops and timelines and all sorts of confusing stuff, but specifically for Kano himself, he died as a child, gained eye powers (can change people's perceptions of him, from small things like having his hands bound when they're really free, to his entire appearance), and formed a gang of other people with eye powers. Outwardly, he's all smiles and is fairly laid back, but that's all a facade.

CHARACTER BLURB: Largely grew up in an orphanage filled with a mishmash of children, contracted with a daemon at a young age and was subsequently ostracized by most of the other children and staff. Formed a little gang of sorts with some of the children who weren't scared of him being one of the Contracted, and the staff there shoved them out the door to Daylight Academy at the earliest convenience.
PRE-ESTABLISHED CR: I'd love to parallel canon and create a "gang", either from when he was at the orphanage, or established later while at school. He'd have been a student for some time, so cr with other students would be nice! While he's outwardly friendly and likes to poke fun at people and joke around, he isn't particularly close to people who aren't in his very tight inner circle of friends/I really want this gang thing ig

BLURB: A young, artificial Adept from a world where humans with all kinds of crazy powers are starting to emerge, as something of the next evolutionary stage of humankind. A resolute, intelligent, and kind person with a strong moral compass in spite of everything terrible that has happened to him, Gunvolt fights for peace between normal humans and Adepts, and will take on anyone who threatens it.

STUDENT OR FACULTY?: Student
CHARACTER BLURB: An orphan boy who spent most of his life transferring from one orphanage to another, before it was discovered he had some ability to work with runic inscriptions. He joined a small group called QUILL, despite his young age, at the behest of their leader, Asimov. QUILL specialized in this magical art, seeking to fight the encroaching Nightfall with the tools, weapons, and knowledge they gathered. However, a couple of years later, the source of his unusual gift was realized: when his own Flame power activated in a moment of desperation on a mission gone wrong. Manifesting primarily as control over lightning and electricity, GV's powers were wild and difficult for him to control with finesse. He has taken to calling his Radiance a "Flashfield", due to the blue lightning that tends to spark everywhere around him when he uses it. He managed to construct a weapon with his runic abilities to help more properly direct his Flame powers, which he calls a Dart Leader. This is when he earned the codename "Azure Striker" and "Gunvolt."

Not very long after, Gunvolt left QUILL at the suggestion of his boss, Asimov, to join the Daybreak Academy, both to learn how to control his powers, and better prepare him for the inevitable battle against the Nightfall.
PRE-ESTABLISHED CR: None just yet, given he'd be a recent arrival in what would probably amount to a freshman class. Though if someone else wants to be part of the QUILL organization I'm totally down and we can talk about hammering out some details.
DESIRED CR: Friends, people who can challenge him to do better, and good mentors. Other runic inscriptionists would be cool to meet too! All things he really needs. Also people to drag him into shenanigans because honestly I can't let him get too comfy.

CHARACTER AU NAME: 82 White Chain Returns From Emptiness To Subdue Evil or just White Chain for short.
STUDENT OR FACULTY?: Faculty
CHARACTER BLURB: An Angel from the outlands, a spirit of smokeless fire that has inhabited a suit of armor so she can interact with physical objects on this plane of existence. Traditionally, angels have always focused on maintaining law and order in the Outlands. As of late, more and more angels have turned from this path as it grows frustratingly impossible with the coming of Nightfall. 82 White Chain is one of the increasingly few angels that holds true to her original purpose. She has, reluctantly, agreed to work with humans, as she can't think of any other way to maintain the balance of Earth and the Outlands.
PRE-ESTABLISHED CR: White Chain has probable been working with the school for about as long as it's been open. Angels are immortal, so a few decades is nothing to her. She teaches martial arts and outland cosmology and is generally considered to be one of the strictest and hardest teachers in the school.
DESIRED CR: Other Lawful Neutral or Lawful Good types who believe in THE LAW. People with more negotiable moral compasses who can drive her crazy.
OTHER: Angels do not have gender but traditionally use He/His. Until relatively recently, White Chain did too but has reluctantly admitted that she feels more comfortable with feminine pronouns.

BLURB: Awkward magizoologist from the 1920s writes a book and tries to live a normal and quiet life. Ends up helping in the eventual defeat of a great dark wizard.

CHARACTER AU NAME: Newton Artemis Fido "Newt" Scamander
STUDENT OR FACULTY?: Faculty - Something creature/familiar related, but Newt would honestly be suitable for magic/charms of some sort.
CHARACTER BLURB: I imagine Newt being a Mage Tamer. A rather gifted mage, but hidden in the shadows of his older brother. His personality and general temperament makes him someone who is easy to overlook next to his more brilliant and noticeable brother and that he was quite a bit of an outcast growing up. Newt's gifted magic and affinity to creatures lead him toward the path of being a tamer (to the disappointment of his mother and brother).

Newt is someone who seeks to help others if he feels it is right and cares to educate others due to his rather open views about others. It's probably the only reason why he makes a good faculty member because his people skills are lackluster at best.

PRE-ESTABLISHED CR: Other faculty members, previous colleagues of any sort, friends, or students that are familiar with him
DESIRED CR: Any CR at the moment. I can't really think of any that I wouldn't want.

More Background-y, Gongenzaka is a Very Strong 14 year old/Protag Best Friend, who is next in line at a dojo focusing in the 'Steadfast Style' of dueling. Which one part focuses on ALL MONSTERS NO SPELLS NO TRAPS FINALDESTINATION but more importantly focuses a lot on the idea of using power to protect the weaker, exercising restraint and control in one's actions, respecting those around you, etc etc.

HE'S A VERY GOOD BOY...so time to translate that to AU stuff.

AU INFORMATION

CHARACTER AU NAME: Noboru Gongenzaka
STUDENT OR FACULTY?: STUDENT he's still 14
CHARACTER BLURB: Gongenzaka's family is a mix of a Werebear clan, and some runic practicioners of magic- he himself doesn't know anything beyond What Runes Are Necessary Before First Transformation, because that's. About what the runic practicioners are there for.

The Dojo was founded some time before he was born, a gathering of weres hoping to focus on controlling their abilities- it's also where Gon's mom (a were) met his dad. As a born lycanthrope, there's some greater control on his transformations, helped considerably by the fact that the entire school is so heavily focused on that control. Meditation is key, managing one's anger, etc etc...

Gongenzaka is heading to Daybreak Academy one part as an example of a "Good Lycanthrope" but another part because restraint or no when he was 12 his best friend got a letter, and he really wanted to go. (Really wanted to. Please Daybreak let him in,)

He's 14 (grade 8) now so he'll have been around a little bit.

Bonus: he's pretty good at speaking french, since the dojo considers that necessary knowledge. He is....................not so good with english and invariably sounds like he stepped out of the 1800s ~~reflecting the fact that he honestly sounds like a Japanese Renfaire Guy in canon~~
PRE-ESTABLISHED CR: Other than the obvious aforementioned Best Friend (hey yuuya), Gongenzaka is also open for other pre-established CR plotting if anyone else is coming from VagueCity, Japan- or was simply around the last year or so at the school- so hit me up!
DESIRED CR: So much CR, all the CR- Gongenzaka bounces pretty hilariously off trickster types since he's fairly LAWFULGOOD himself (albeit flexible to a point) on that note, since he'll invariably devolve into 'old man yells at cloud' style protests.

He's a playful flirty guy, and takes the whole seeing Death thing in good humor.

CHARACTER BLURB: A mage trying to combine magic with swordplay, mostly out of a desire to be more practical in combat given how messy mage society tends to be, and for the coming Night. Some people would have scoffed at him for being an idealistic idiot trying to go for the impossible, but he still tries! I want to explore him being more ambitious and impatient, and still working on perfecting his art rather than a sweet old cat who is a master at his job, which is why I'm choosing to make him 20-something rather than the 42yo presented in canon. Daybreak would have offered him a chance to develop his magic fencing and also impart what he's learned to other people.

I want him to keep his catness of course, so I'm having him bitten and turned into a lycanthrope sometime after he started training as a mage, and some of the features just... stuck outside of the full moon, and he's learned to live with them.

CHARACTER BLURB: Yuya grew up in Japan as the single child of an ex-delinquent mother and a father with a seemingly normal life. That was until unexplained oddities started to happen around him as a result of innate magical talent. At age six his father admits to being a mage, although one who's distaced himself from actual mage society due to a strong disagreeing with their isolation and arrogance. He kept it a secret because of the danger sharing magic with normal humans poses, but he couldn't exactly hide Yuya inheriting that ability.

When Yuya was 8, his father disappeared without a trace. No leads were found and the case has been left cold, with Yuya's mother left to look after him herself. Not being part of the magic world, she was overwhelmed until an old acquaintance of Yuya's father showed up at their doorstep and offered help. They were part of a coven of tamers, made up mostly of mage tamers and a couple candles, who could help protect Yuya and introduce him to magic safely. While he continued to live at home with his mother and attend an ordinary school, a lot of his free time was spent with the coven learning to be a tamer as well.

At 12 he successfully bonded with a dragon-like spirit from the Outlands, that he calls Odd-Eyes. The spirit became his familiar, and shortly after Yuya was given the opportunity to attend Daybreak Academy. At the start of the game he's been there at least one grade already, being 14 now.

He's an... okay student. He half asses the classes he doesn't care about and has probably caused some low key classroom property damage by ignoring the teacher instructions. He's really bad at French. He's pretty unassuming, but quietly holding some second thoughts on the supposedly monstrous nature of the Outlands and other supernatural. If there's a theater club he's definitely in it.

PRE-ESTABLISHED CR: People from the tamer group he learned with, friends he's already made from the past ~2 years at the academy so far (really who wants to make theater club), LITERALLY ANYTHING ELSE YOU WANT TO THROW AT ME.

STUDENT OR FACULTY?: Faculty - possibly teaching illusion magic, with a heavy dose of general deception ability. Do you want to learn how to get away with crime, children? He might teach you that!
CHARACTER BLURB: Once a daemon of reasonable rank and power, he was always a little more interested in humanity than typical. Eventually he got too close and formed some actual mortal attachments. Though he prefers trickery and subterfuge, he ended up having to directly tangle with some stronger daemons to protect his chosen mortals. He came off the worse, but was able to escape to the human world, and is now basically in exile from the Outlands.
PRE-ESTABLISHED CR: Definitely looking for humans who could have been the people he befriended and defected for! It seems likely that these might have been contracted by him, but they don't really need to be. Also open to people he contracted prior to having a change of heart, or just...whatever. He's immortal, so he's probably been kicking around here for a while.
DESIRED CR: Any CR! He's definitely a trickster who will gently (or less than gently) screw with more serious types, and would love some people to raise hell with. He may also lowkey be looking for people who he can seek moral guidance from - he tries to be good, but he's still a daemon, so it doesn't really come naturally all the time. Does anyone want to form a moral philosophy study group?

CHARACTER BLURB: School nurse who actually has some medical training (thankfully) (unlike in canon). At some point (read: when he was an angry pre-teen) formed a Pact with a Daemon for the purpose of "stopping everyone's suffering". His power allows him to consume the emotions of others, from calming down a crying child enough for them to be reasoned with to completely and permanently destroying someone's personality and motivations. The cost of this, of course, is that his powers constantly drain his emotions and physical health unless he uses his powers on others on a regular basis.

ASIDE FROM SKETCHY BACKSTORY Mr. Hades is a thirtysomething man who obviously thrives on any and all positive attention and tries a little too hard to be #relatable to the #youths but he's sweet and sincere about it. His goal is for the infirmary to be "A welcoming place for anyone with any problem!!"

Which. You know. Might be a bit of a problem because of the aforementioned SKETCHY BACKSTORY and general society's distrust of anyone foolish enough to make a contract with a daemon but he's trying his best.

PRE-ESTABLISHED/DESIRED CR: Are you a student who's had a medical concern in the past three years? You've probably met Nurse Hades. Are you a student who likes the idea of skipping classes to hang out and read the stash of comic books you keep under that one cot in the infirmary? Yeah you can do that too, if you're willing to tell a little white lie like "I don't feel good today". Are you a teacher who is tired of the school nurse letting kids skip classes to read comic books in the infirmary with only the flimsiest of excuses? Yeah you've probably had to talk to Hades about that. Are you a teacher who just needs to complain about coworkers and students to an attentive listener? Come to the infirmary!

CHARACTER BLURB: A student of mysterious origin, if anybody asks, with the power of Second Sight. Technically a Watcher but like, they kind of keep their distance because Have You Seen Her? Her biggest claim to fame within the Watchers is that seers of the past sometimes communicate things to her in her dreams, helping her make sense of fragmented readings or visions, and allowing her to give future context to them in exchange. She's also a Candle, with the ability to turn her body and sometimes thing she touches into crystal.
To other students, she is an enigma wrapped in bacon dipped in hot sauce. She is weird, off-putting, comes on way too strong, and you can never really place what's going on underneath. She overshares and gets way too personal except about things that actually matter, and might forget to even share an important prophecy she knows whoops.
True past: born to British-Indian parents, got her Second Sight super early and has been in Watcher care mostly ever since. Has no social skills due to her upbringing, sorry not sorry.
PRE-ESTABLISHED CR: Only with other Watchers, probably, for deep past stuff. Although I guess she's be known around campus to other students and such, she's kind of loud and hard to miss.
DESIRED CR: Maple does not have friends, Maple has people who barely stand her, and lots more who do not stand her at all.
OTHER: too lazy for a meme. help me think on what she might lose in exchange for her Second Sight though.
